Mastering this medicine takes years of dedicated learning. Acupuncture and Asian Medicine (AAM) is a profound discipline that goes far beyond simply inserting needles into the body—something that can be learned in a brief workshop by any medical professional. It encompasses a vast and intricate body of knowledge, forming a comprehensive system of medicine. Licensed acupuncturists undergo extensive graduate and doctoral-level training, including over 1,000 hours of hands-on patient care. Additionally, we must pass 3-4 national board exams to earn our license to practice. While our patients don't need to possess this in-depth knowledge to benefit from AAM, I've found that many of them appreciate understanding why and how we're using the medicine on their behalf. It helps them feel empowered, curious, and more connected to their healing journey.
